Hi

Is it ok to connect a dashcam to the purple diagnostic socket under the dash on the drivers side to get power?

If you are just tapping into the 12v power lie I cant see how it would cause any problems. That said are there no other lines you could take power from ?

Currently using the 12v socket but thought I could free it up by using the diagnostic socket although I would need a switched connection as I think the socket has continuous power.

You must connect it via the fuse box with a new fused connection, you can piggyback on an existing fuse depending on whether you require a constant or switched supply. See page 194/5 of the handbook.
