I have 17" rims and bought a new full size steel 16" spare wheel with 205 60 16 tyre. Used a tyre comparison site to find best size that would fit spare wheel well.
The wheel does just fit and is quite tight. I do not think an original 205 55 17 would fit as it would be 5mm greater in diameter but maybe someone else has fitted one.

hi i have just tried my 17 inch wheel in the boot of my 25 reg r line it goes most of the way in but does not sit quite flat but would be ok with floor in top position . bit concerned if its been in a while it might not come out easily

My spare is a tight fit in the well. I have made a strap which is fed through the spoke holes and is used to lift the wheel out. Without the strap I find it very difficult to lift the wheel.
