I stopped on a hill at traffic lights today, stop/start kicked in, lights changed and I moved my foot to the accelerator and the car rolled back, to my surprise.
So, is hill start disabled when stop/start is in play?

No, not on ours anyway. It should have held the car whilst the engine restarted and you had a chance to accelerate away.

Maybe the start took too long to kick in. Will test again, but obviously have to wait til engine is warm enough to activate stop start(which doesn't seem to happen to much locally).

It's independent of stop start, it should hold after a full stop. Note it can be fooled if you stop 'lightly' as it relying on your firm pressure on the footbrake to activate it.
