Just seen specifications online that the SEL comes with a quality USB cable. Can anyone verify?
I ask because my local dealer had very little info on spec and in the end was so unhelpful I ended up travelling 30 miles to get a decent salesman.
Still waiting delivery though

My SEL was supplied with a good quality USB cable for my iPhone. My dealer asked me which phone I had and it was in the car at handover.

The usb cable and data plug should be supplied free of charge by the dealer. Make sure he supplies both and sets up your phone link before you take the car away. I suggest you download the app to your phone before you pick up the car.

They are meant to supply an Android or Apple lead (your choice)

The data plug is only needed for the S & SE as the SEL and R Line have it built into the car, however it may still be worth asking for one as the built in one has a 3 year subscription to Car-Net 'Guide & Inform'; Only limited stuff is left after 3 years if you don't pay for it.

That's Interesting...

Are we sure that the SEL has the data plug built in, as my SEL definitely has one that the salesman plugged into the ODBII port under the dash by the pedals ??

The salesman was then able to pair the data plug by Bluetooth to my phone and show me how to use the app.

My understanding that all models need the data plug if you want to use the App.

I still have the box..

We connect definitely connects to car-net (which comes with sel and above) and gives some functionality, I understood that it includes all the data plug functions, however as I haven't got my car yet I cannot check ! I will be asking for the dataplug anyway and see what the reaction is.

The apps are all pretty confusing..

We Connect app doesn't do a lot other than let you specify satnav destinations and upload them to portal which the car can also see if it has a Wifi connection. As far as I can see, that is all it will do.

VW Connect app does more, as this is the app that communicates with the Bluetooth Data Plug. This pops up a phone notification when ever I turn off the car telling me stuff about my journey. It also tells you stuff like route you took, fuel levels, battery voltage, total mileage etc., but only when connected to the Bluetooth data plug.

Both a gimmick at first, but now I hardly use either of them..

As greycross says the data plug is useful to a point but I have stopped using it as if seemed to be draining my phone battery too much.
