VW has started testing prototypes of the upcoming T-Cross with significantly less camouflage on them, giving us a proper look on the boxy lines of the new small SUV.

The spy new shots confirm that VW hasn't taken the Russian doll approach to styling. The overall shape of the car is much more square compared to the T-Roc, and while there are some current VW SUV design traits - such as the grille - the T-Cross should stand out at the bottom of the brand's line-up. Essentially, the T-Cross is a Polo SUV, but it hasn't taken any of its design direction from the firm's supermini.

According to the company, the new VW baby SUV will be 4,107mm-long and 1,558mm-tall, which means it's slightly larger than the Polo supermini. The two models are based on the same MQB A0 platform, with VW claiming that the T-Cross will offer a spacious interior and a class-leading luggage space of up to 455 litres

This mule wears a small bit of masking, but official teaser sketches fill in the gaps. As such, we expect the rear lights to be connected by an LED lighting strip spanning the width of the tailgate. .
