Any other Aussie owners with this problem? There is a soft foam layer behind the rear registration plate that is wider than a standard Australian plate, so the foam is exposed on either side of the plate and looks unsightly. It looks intended for wider European plates. I am reluctant to peel it off and leave a sticky residue or damage the paintwork.

Hi Dapple,
I Queensland and other states you can order personalised plates in slimmer and wider styles. I have a rear slimline plate mounted on that foam material. If you want to remove it, I think that you can saw it off with nylon fishing line worked in behind it and gradually cut through it. Residue can be removed with mineral turpentine.

I have personal slimline plates but đont have anything showing behind them. I presume ïf there was originally, the dealer must have trimmed it off.
