Hardwire dashcam - where to earth/ground?

Post by Johnsmith » Sat Dec 14, 2019 2:43 pm

I plan to hardwire a dashcam to internal fusebox in a right hand drive (UK) Tcross with a piggy back fuse adapter kit like this https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/nextbase ... x8EALw_wcB

I can't see anywhere obvious for the earth/ground connection inside the internal fuse box compartment. Has anyone done this and if so, where was the grounding connection made?

I will be charged by hour so want to check in advance to save time, as my local garage not done a Tcross before.

Cheers

Connected mine to a screw behind the end panel. You can gently prise it off with the door open. Makes installation easier as well.

Will try to get a pic tomorrow. Pretty simple job to do yourself as opposed to paying garage fees!

Like SimonF, I installed my hardwire kit behind the end panel on the end of the dash, easy to prise off the panel when the drivers door is open.

I couldn't see a suitable bolt behind there, but what I did see is a metal bracket which holds the dash which had a hole in it. I guess this is to save weight, but I found it useful to put a bolt through with a washer each side and then used this to earth to.

Easy to then run the live wire through the fuse box and piggy back on to and existing switched live fuse.

Simples !!

Hi

Here is my dashcam set up. In theory it could be neater around the door pillar but I didn't want to force the plastics.

Hope it helps!

Camera mounted near rear view mirror and cable tucked under headlining

Cable run around door pillar and then down the door seal.

Cable exiting door seal and then tucked up under lower dash

Power box secured with zippy tie and earth run to existing screw at the top. You can use the nextbase tool supplied with the hard wire kit to ease off the cover.

Connect to the rear wiper fuse (F43) and excess cable zippied and tucked away

You can see the hole that I used clearly in SimonF's pictures..

Pretty much identical install to mine, power module tie wrapped to bracket etc, although I did manage to completely hide the cable other than the last 2 inches to the camera.

Nice !!

Round the a pillar and down the door seal i used a flat blade screwdriver with a microfibre wrapped over the tip to ease the cable into the gap. There is flex between the panels. Just enough to be tidy. Then removal is just a gentle pull along the length. Ill take pics tomorow if dry

How do you get that end panel off pls? Just brute force with a screwdriver/lever? Or are there some retainers to release first?
