Hill Assist

Post by thomastcr » Sat May 16, 2020 8:39 pm

Hi everyone,

do you know if is there any way to deactivate hill assist?
I've experienced many issues when I drive in reverse gear (in a slope). The brake automatically stops me due to hill assist and the transmission box is noisy and smelly like burnt...

Thanks!

All hill assist does is maintain the footbrake for a couple of seconds. If it detects you're on a slope, when you move your foot from brake to accelerator the car maintains the footbrake for around 2 seconds, sufficient for you to get the bite and move off.

There's no way to disable it, and a simple way to check, find a slope, handbrake off while holding footbrake, then release footbrake, still covering it. You should notice the car remains stopped, then starts to roll in a couple of seconds, as the hill hold releases. At which point you can brake again.

It won't stop you once moving unless the car detects something close behind and slams on the brakes. Is yours a manual?, it sounds to me more like you're slipping the clutch.

Hi again, thanks for the reply.
To be more precise, my car is a manual one. I experience this issue when I'm trying to park in a slope using reverse gear. When I release the footbrake, the car stops after a couple of seconds (without touching the clutch, only pushing the accelerator) and then I have to start again. The most scary issue is the possible damage of the gearbox.

Is this a specific slope, and is there anything close to the car? This could be related to the reverse safety braking if the cars detecting something. This CAN be turned off in the settings. Can't remember what it's called and where the setting is, it's too late at night to check.

I'll get back to you on this unless anyone jumps in in the meantime.

Morning, manoeuvre braking is what I was thinking of.... This is suppose to give you emergency braking if it thinks you're going to hit something whilst manoeuvring. I had it once backing into a parking space, came on with a bang which felt like we'd hit the car behind even though I was sure I was clear.

Turn this off and see if you have the same issue.
