Roof box

Post by GNev88 » Tue Jun 23, 2020 12:22 pm

Afternoon all, currently looking at getting a roof box, didn't have much luck going into Halfords, car was to new for their system to say which products are appropriate.

Has anyone fitted a roof box and the cross bar, used to attach the box to the roof bars of the car. And if so which ones have you used?

Photos appreciated.

I've an R Line so have the roof bars on the car.

Cheers.

I've got a Thule roofbox along with roofbars and towbar mounted bike carrier. They're on the expensive side, but why would you want to stick cheap stuff on a £25K car?

By shopping around I managed to get roofbox Thule Force XT 300L for £275 at https://roof-bars.co.uk and the roofbars Thule Wingbar Evo for £168 from https://www.thejourneycentre.co.uk/bars ... 7783/s8506

Thule do larger roofboxes, but 300L is big enough and you need space to store the box when it's not on the car. At speeds of 75mph with the box on top there was no wind noise, so pleased about that.

I've attached pics as requested -

Think I'm going to plump for a 400L, needs to fit a pram and other stuff aswell, dogs in the boot so no space in there, looks like it will add another 30cm onto the length of the box, seems to be enough room judging by your photos. Did you sit your box as close to the aerial as possible?

On a side note, did you have your towbar factory fitted on order? Or did you sort that after delivery?

Cheers 👍

re aerial.
Unscrewed mine while carrying some sheet material on roof bars.
Surprised how good radio reception was without it , even DAB which is marginal here.

The 300L is long enough to get my golf bag with clubs on one side and a pushchair on the other side. I'm not sure about distance from aerial, at a guess about 10 - 15cm

I'm still waiting for the towbar to be fitted, it's a long story and needless to say lockdown hasn't helped. Now happening on 23rd July for £860 at the dealership I bought the car from in March. The price includes replacement rear bumper diffuser, that has cut-out for towbar, which means no bumper cut required to accommodate towbar.

Ah really, 300 could be promising then, I've looked at dimensions of box and pram and on paper they would fit in the 300L, but i've read the specs can be misleading as shape of box and pram wheels may not go together well, think I need to actually put he pram into both models and see which is best, easier said than done at the moment.

I may chase that up with my dealer, I was under the impression if you didn't get it factory fitted then it wasn't possible to add at a later date, sure I read that on a thread on here, that was a while ago so things could have changed.

Thanks for the info 👍, car looks great.

re Towbar. Didnt think there was a factory fit option for towbar ?
Mine, removable, got fitted by dealer after delivery in December , took them a whole day mainly due to care needed to remove and refit internal panels.

I must be wrong then, I remember being disappointed and thought I'd missed the boat RE the towbar, it's the one thing I regret from buying the ex demo, it had everything else I wanted.

Will look into this with my dealer, cheers 👍

No factory fit towbars for the T-Cross - dealer fit only if the dealer can be ar*ed to order it at the same time as ordering the car. It took 2 months after the dealer received my car for it to be finally fitted!
