Strange Warning Symbol on dash

Hi All

I was on the motorway the other day when there was a very high pitched alarm and the entire dash panel (where the digital speedo is displayed between the analogue speedo and rev counter) was filled with an icon which I can only describe as a car with 4 WiFi-style concentric arc symbols surrounding the car icon was displayed, probably around 5 or 6 cm high. None of the red or amber warning lights in the dash displayed. It was only there for a second or so before the digital speedo reappeared.

I’ve never seen anything in that area other than messages when the ACC sensor is impaired, so was wondering if anyone had ever experienced anything similar ? There was nothing affected the car’s performance and there was nothing in the vehicle status screen on the head unit to indicate there was an issue ?

Your both talking about different warnings. The 2 car display is in the lower area where ACC speed. lane keeping and the trips are. This is the 'driving too close'.

Neilmanc is talking about a big large warning between the dials, showing a car with radar like lines on all 4 sides. This is the 'collision imminent' warning, sometimes it also slams the brakes on. Had this at 5 mph following a car out of a car park, and pulling away onto an empty roundabout. Never had it in a potential real emergency!

Thanks. Could have been as the traffic was quite heavy and a numpty pulled in ahead of me from lane 2 to 1 in my safe space so that could have triggered it. The symbol wasn’t on screen long enough for me to get a detailed look so there could have been two cars but it certainly has radar / wifi arc symbols emanating from the car icon

Yes it is definitely a warning sign with regards to the surrounding traffic.
I get this when backing out on our drive onto the main road or going down my daughters drive ,as the car thinks it is to close to something and jams on the brakes ,very off putting and frightening.
I have tried to calm the warnings with no luck .😩

This happened to me on Tuesday. I was driving along at 30 with the limiter set to 30mph. The brakes came on and stopped the car immediately. There wasn’t anything in front of me. It was very frightening to be stopped at that speed. Lucky the car behind wasn’t close or he might have gone into me. The warning symbol came on and there was a loud noise.
I was able to drive the remaining 2 miles home and called VW assist who came out and checked that it was safe to drive again.
