WeConnect logout on vehicle Infotainment unit

Hi All

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but thought I would flag up something which happened on my T-Cross over the weekend.

I had driven out, parked up, then as I was driving back shortly after setting off the infotainment unit came up with a full screen error message along the lines of "You haven't used WeConnect in a long time so you have to reconfirm your account details" and had a field to enter an email address and password. As I was driving at the time, I pressed the "Drive without WeConnect" button without thinking too much about it. Apple CarPlay continued to work and route guidance on Apple Maps was fine as was making calls, listening to texts, etc.

After I got home and parked up again, I realised that this had logged me out of the primary user account on the vehicle (I only have one user on it) and had returned it to the Guest user with all the privacy etc settings back to default max security. The WeConnect app also didn't work, and I couldn't access any of the vehicle details by logging into the MyVolkswagen web site. So basically it was like driving the car showroom-condition in terms of the personalisation etc.

I tried entering the email and password I use for logging into the app and MyVolkswagen site, and this failed with a message along the lines of "couldn't verify details" etc.

I tried again today and the same login credentials as I tried yesterday, and this worked perfectly (as far as I can tell) and the app is now showing all the usual data. The only difference being that I was parked on the open road today rather than the underground car park where I live, and although my mobile phone had a full signal in the car park, I assume that the system uses its own inbuilt eSIM to connect to the back-end systems to validate the login credentials and presumably this had no signal in my car park.

I have no idea why the system logged me out in the first place, as I check WeConnect on the app every few weeks and it had worked yesterday on my outward journey, only failing when I started off to drive home. It isn't any significant anniversary of me purchasing the car or creating the account or anything, so just thought I'd mention it in case it happens to anyone else

It's getting ridiculous when you get unnecessary alerts like this whilst driving, and you're expected to keep going to their website to keep using your own car.

I'm glad ours has the MIB2 which doesn't have all this primary user palava.

It wasn’t the website I had to go to to enter the email address and password, it was within the head unit that it had to be entered

Reminds me of the microsoft car, you're doing 80 mph in the outside lane and suddenly the dash goes blue, tells you it's crashed, and you need to shut the car off and lock and unlock it for it to reboot... :D
